About 500 factory workers and 140 salaried personnel are affecter bythe five-week shutdown. said in May that productiohn would be stopped for threes weeks at the local facility as the automaker reduce s inventory by temporarily idlin a number ofits plants. That periox is being combined with theregular two-week planned companywide shutdown that starts on June 29. Spokeswoman Nina Pricde said that a small workforceof “maybe 100” is staying on the job during much of the plant’e three-week shutdown. No schedule change at the local plant has been ordered at this time because of an extension of the temporarh summertime closures at seven GM she said.
These locations include the Ont., car plant, and other assembly planta at Lordstown, Ohio, Shreveport, La., and Orio n Township - which receive engines from Tonawanda. The latestr round of closures was announced this week and rang e from one added week at the Oshawa factorhy to four additional weeks at the Lansing Granxd River plantin Michigan.
