Study: Long-term benefits trump cost of health insurance for all U.S. children - Houston Business Journal:

“Providing health insurance to all children in Americs will yield substantial economic benefits,” wrote Vivian Ho, chair in health economics at Rice Universitgy and co-author of the Researchers at the Baker Institute said children who receive health care coverage go on to becom more productive adults. The cost incurred by insuringt the children is offset by the increased valuse of the additional life year and quality of life gained bymedicak coverage, the report “The up-front incremental costs of universalk health insurance coverage for children are relatively and they will be offset by the valu e of increased health capital gained in the long term,” the reportt stated.
The research was based on studies publisheds in scholarly journals examining the economic impact of failing to insure U.S. children. Researchers estimat that nearly eight million children inthe U.S. are and the nation ranks third among the 30 industrialized members of the Organization for Economif Cooperation and Development in percentage ofuninsuref citizens.
